CAMPBELL'S of Middlesex 1700's
« on: Saturday 22 April 17 11:40 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone this is my first post so I hope I'm in the right place.
I have hit a wall when it comes to finding information on the predecessors of my ancestor Anderson CAMPBELL.
Here's what I have found so far...

Anderson Campbell was born Abt 1754 & Died in April 1838 in Middlesex England.
He Married Catherine Purney (Born abt 1756 - ?) on 17th October 1777 at St Anne's Kew Surrey

The had the following children all born in Middlesex;
* John (Jan 1786 - ?)
* Thomas (Apr 13, 1788 - 1870)
* James (Jul 19, 1790 - 1792)
* Elizabeth (Nov 10, 1792 - Jan 1864)
* Anderson (Apr 28, 1795 - 10 sep 1854)
* Samuel (Oct 26, 1797 - ?)

I'm hopefull for any information on Anderson and Catherine. In particular, I'm trying to trace where my Campbell line originated.

the above mentioned * Anderson (Apr 28, 1795 - 10 sep 1854) married Mary Field.
One of their children Alfred Douglas Campbell is the first Campbell in my line that is in Australia (where I am)
Alfred Douglas Campbell married Emily GOODWIN & they had a son Herbert Augustus Campbell. He is my great great grandfather.
Herbert Augustus married Whilhelmine WAGNER- they had a son Ernest Bruce Campbell.
Ernest Bruce married Violet Alvina WOOSTER. They had a son John Herbert Bruce Campbell who was my grandfather.

Thank you for your time.
I really hope someone out there can help me trace this family line.

Are you sure about the death of Anderson in 1838?

The GRO death index has the following:
1838 Q2 Anderson Campbell; age 5* (b1833); Strand Union 01 342

And there looks to be a corresponding burial
27 Jun 1838 St Anne, Soho; Anderson Campbell; age 5

* The GRO death ages are iffy as they may be years, months, weeks, so young ages need to be treated with caution.

Hi thank you for your quick response!

I'm not 100% on the dates for Anderson as I cant find much solid information.
I did find an alternative date for an Anderson Campbell B1746 in Argyll died in 1826 in St Anne's Soho?

I am sure that he didnt die when he was 5.

Hi

Welcome to rootschat

The Anderson Campbell who was buried in 1826 at Spa Fields was of the parish of St Anns, Soho age 80.  Where does the place of birth as Argyll come from  :-\

There was a baptism in 1883 in St Andrew Holborn, which looks like it could be the child who died.

03 Aug 1833 Anderson Campbell; parents: Anderson & Mary; of Thornmouth?, St Giles; cabinet maker

Does that tally with your Anderson Campbell and Mary Field?

I think you'd need to try and locate the older Anderson's burial or death record to be sure of his age. I can't see any obvious burial, death or census record at the moment. Did you have any more details on him?

Hi the Anderson campbell and Mary field did have a son named Anderson Campbell who died when he was 5 so yes the dates for that do match my tree.

I found the 1746-1826 in the national archives non conformist register showing burial at Spa Fields 11 Jun 1826
And in the England Deaths & Burials https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/JZ3F-528

Honestly I'm clutching at straws with this one sorry.  :-[

I suspect teaganc's suggested Argyll connection may come from this:

Baptism: 1747 A. Campbell; Kildalton, Argyll
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XTJQ-KB9

But the service and burial records rosie found look good so maybe this baptism is a better possibility:

Baptism: 1748 Anderson Campbel; Prestonkirk, East Lothian

If he married Catherine in 1777 Surrey and the first child you have was baptised in Holborn, Middlesex in 1786 I wonder where was he in between  :-\
