Copestake/Copestick
« on: Saturday 22 April 17 14:31 BST (UK) »
Hello

I am having difficulty searching for a Hannah Copestake.
The information I have is as follows

Hannah Copestake marries Charles Booth 27 Sept 1884 Church of Normacott
She states she is 21 years old and her father is Joseph Copestake (deceased)
That puts her birth at 1863.
On the 1891 and 1901 census she states she is born in Longton
I can not find a Hannah on any 1871 census that includes a Joseph or without a father.
In 1881 I found a Hannah Copestake born in Longton as a boarder.

In searching bmd
There are 3 Hannah Copestakes
1 born 1863 in Ashbourne
1 born 1864 Stoke
1 born 1861 in Belper

There is 1 Hannah Copestick
born 1865 in Newcastle under Lyme

I found a Joseph and Sarah Copestick that christened Hannah in 1865 in Edensor.

I have the registration of the birth in 1864.   It states her mother as Maria Copestake and no father.

Do you think it would be a good idea to order the registration from 1863 in Ashbourne?

Any suggestions on where to go from here would be greatly appreciated.

Kathy

There is a baptism in Longton 15 January 1865 - Hannah Copestick mother Maria

She may have lied about a father - she wouldn't be the first  ::)  ;D

Thank you so much

I definitely considered the fact that she may be lying about the father.  ::)  It is something that has happened in other branches of my tree. ;D

This has helped immensely.

Thank you both for your time and have a great weekend.

Kathy

I see that Maria's oldest brother is Joseph.
That is maybe where Hannah got the idea from

Thank you all so much

It makes sense that Hannah is boarding with the Lathams since this would be the family her mother married into.
