Maybe it was meant to be?
« on: Saturday 22 April 17 15:07 BST (UK) »
I started my family history research in 2012, one year after moving to the village of Farcet. Almost immediately I discovered that some of my ancestors came from Farcet and the surrounding villages. The parish church they were all baptised and married in is at the end of my road.

Recently, I was looking into my Rimes ancestors from Farcet and discovered a detail that I hadn't noticed before.

My 6x great grandfather, Francis Rimes, was actually the parish clerk!

So here I am, his direct descendant moving into his parish and basically recopying all his work!

I often joked to my family that there was a reason that I moved here, now it seems that reincarnation might be at play  ;)

Some interesting co-incidences JAK. I've read similar stories before on rootschat about people who end up living in the parish of their ancestors.  :)

So good that you find your ancestors came from a place you decided to move to. At least if you want to check headstones after new leads it is just a short walk away rather than a 2 hour drive or so.

I once did some research at the local archives for a person in Australia. I found the information she was after and when I came to the last page of the parish records I realised her relative was the parish clerk. He had a beautiful elaborate signature and I was able to send this to her.
It's always amazing what you can find and the hidden gems parish records can reveal.

My 6xgreat grandfather was the sexton at St Augustine's, Kirkby in Cleveland.  He died in 1770.  I often wonder if he dug his own grave. ;)  I only discovered this fact when I looked at the burial register and it stated "Sexton, buried at expense of Parish."

My great great grandfather was coachman at Great Staughton manor. He must have seen the hunt meets of the Duke of Bedford's hounds many times, as Great Staughton has always been on the hunt calendar.

I rather doubt he would ever in his wildest dreams have imagined that one day his great great grandson would ride out with the Oakley hunt (as the Duke of Bedford's hounds became) from Great Staughton ... but it happened.

I was unaware of the family connection to Great Staughton at the time ...
