Mother ? Belcher
« on: Saturday 22 April 17 17:48 BST (UK) »
Hi all,
Looking at Irthlingborough P.R's for burials 1598 what may be a distant
ancestor is entered as what looks like 'Mother'.
Was that usual as the index gives the first name as Mather but I think that was a male name and the description is widow.
Around the preceding period there seems to be another 'Mother' and also a 'Father' who is described as an old man.
I would be interested in anyone's thoughts.
Regards
robsdad

It does say Mother. Probably as a courtesy title - or maybe nobody knew her Christian name!

Hi,
Thanks for photo, don't know why mine would not attach.
Hard to believe that nobody knew her name but I suspect she was quite old
( maybe William Belcher's widow who died 1572 ) .
But her possible son/relative John and his wife were still alive until 1617.
Thanks again & kind regards,
robsdad.
