Denne v Denne 1
« on: Sunday 23 April 17 00:37 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help me decipher this extract from a record in the Court of Cancery. I am trying to work out who this relates to and what is going on. I can make out the following details. The year looks like 1637 and then it names "....... Denne the younger of Littlebourne". I'm not sure of the first name though, could it be David or Vincent?

Further down I think I can make out the following "Bill of Complaint in this Most Honorable Court of Cancery against Elizabeth Denne Defendant" although I'm not certain if I've got all the words right.

It then mentions John Denne of Littlebourne and states that he was "seized in fee of land".

Would someone be able to check I've read this correct and fill in the gaps? The document is quite long but I'm pretty sure it relates to my Denne family.

Any help would be appreciated and welcomed.

Thanks
Matt

Thanks for that translation. Am I correct in reasoning from this that David Denne (the complainant) was the son of the John Denne of Littlebourne who is referred to in the extract?

These documents are fascinating to me and they probably contain a whole lot of useful genealogical information. However it's frustrating sometime when although you can pick out names sometimes the bits in between are trickier to read. It's a shame that they haven't been translated/transcribed and published.

Many thanks again,

Matt

That's how I would read it.
