Dead laptop - are any parts re-useable?
« on: Sunday 23 April 17 12:46 BST (UK) »
My old lap-top died almost two years ago. The mother board had failed and as it was eight years old then, not worth replacing the board even if a suitable one could be obtained.
I have taken the hard drive out, have retrieved everything I need from it and am now using that as an additional external back up.
But is there anything I can do with any of the other parts? Monitor, speakers or camera perhaps?

Probably no use for anything unless someone needs spares.

You could advertise it on freecycle (giving the make and model, and saying which bits are broken or missing) to see if anyone can use it.

He's right, Resident Nerd has a shelf of dead laptops from clients.  Parts can only be used in a laptop of the same model, they are generally not interchangeable with other laptops.  ::) ;D

Annoyingly, you can't attach a laptop monitor to another computer (tried this recently and have been informed their isn't a solution)
