1840s/1850s Salford
« on: Sunday 23 April 17 14:20 BST (UK) »
In notes left by my 3x great grandfather (written in the 1880s), I am fortunate that he records his memories of his childhood in Salford (1840s-1850s). He mentions a number of locations, and I was just wondering if anybody might have any knowledge of these places?

* "Thomson Factory" on Hope Street, Salford - his brother in law was a foreman in the mill during the 1850s. Several members of the family worked here.

* In the early 1850s he stated that his father, James Emmett, was the landlord of the "The Bay Horse" public house on Hope Street/Oldfield Road, Salford.

* During around 1857-1858 he worked in an unnamed ironmongers store on Market Street, Manchester.

I am curious as to what Hope Street would have been like during this time. Any information on the above places would be greatly appreciated.
