marriage lookup Sydney 1964
« on: Sunday 23 April 17 14:37 BST (UK) »
Hi looking for a marriage in Sydney in 1964 between Ronald Walter Mount and Dorothy Ada Gallagher. Don't know what suburb or any other details. I have just recieved Ronald'sdeath cert after years of trying to find him. He would have been 38 yrs old when he married Dorothy according to the cert.

Thanks

NSW BDM indexes are free to search online up until today's date 1967.

https://familyhistory.bdm.nsw.gov.au/lifelink/familyhistory/search

Ronald and Dorothy do not appear together on electoral rolls until 1972.

Dorothy's first marriage:

4267/1941
CROUCH, ROSS GORDON
ELLULE, DOROTHY ADA
KINGSFORD

They divorced in 1946:

https://www.records.nsw.gov.au/item/1219079

Dorothy's second marriage:

8534/1950
GALLAGHER, THOMAS SAMUEL
CROUCH, DOROTHY ADA
SYDNEY

Thomas and Dorothy are together on electoral rolls until 1963.

Dorothy's death in Queensland:

1986
#56371
Dorothy Ada MOUNT
Father: Joseph Alexander EDDULE
Mother: Dorothea May -

I think her father was John Alexander ELLULE, not Joseph Alexander.

Thankyou so much for that info. I just cannot understand why the marriage is not showing up anywhere.

They may have married in NSW after 1967 or in Queensland where the indexes only extend to 1942 at the moment (75 year closure).  I think they were probably not married as she was still married to Thomas GALLAGHER.

May I ask what new information you would expect to learn from a NSW marriage certificate?  Perhaps there's alternative documents that are available that will provide the new info?

Thankyou for that info. I was sat thinking about the marriage, if Ronald married Dorothy in 1964 he could have been a bigamist, depending on Australian rules. His first wife came back from Oz with her 4 boys in 1960, she had no contact with him after that and no one knew where he was. In the UK she had to wait 7 yrs as they pronounced him dead before she could marry again. So in 1967/68 he would have been free to marry but not in 64. What are your rules on this if someone's spouse disappears and they want to remarry.

Hi Moira, As a marriage has not been located in NSW as yet, you cannot be certain there was one ;D , as Debra says.

It is possible Dorothy was the informant on the Death Certificate and she could say what she wished regarding the marital status.

What evidence do you have of a marriage?
