Sarah Rosborough/George Ellis
« on: Monday 24 April 17 06:37 BST (UK) »
Hi

Does anyone have any information on a Sarah Rosborough who married a George Ellis around 1840.  They lived in the Waterside, in Londonderry.  I've found a number of Birth Certificates for children - but also their Death certificates.

George Ellis died in Jan 1869, the will was probated in 1870 - and by then she had married a William Irwin - a pensioner. On the Marriage Certificate she names her father as John Rosborough, a Merchant.

One of the witnesses Archibald McSparran was married to Eliza Rosborough of Lisbunny - so I'm wondering if Sarah is originally from Lisbunny or surrounding area...

I can't find when she died....

Also there was one son Robert - who I haven't found a death record for.

Any help would be appreciated.....Thank you...

Not in reply to your query as such, but wondered if you had already seem this thread, which also has mention of Rosborough and Lisbunny:

There were several Roseborough/Rosborough entries for Lisbunny at the time of the Griffiths Valuation, in mid 1800.

Have you considered either the death of:

a Sarah Irwin aged 75yrs in Londonderry district in 1884

or

a Sarah Irwin aged 64yrs in Londonderry in 1885?

Unfortunately, neither certificates are yet available to view for free at irishgenealogy.ie, but should be available to view, upon purchase of credits, at GRONI.

 Scotmum,

Thanks for linking the Rosborough post - I hadn't found that one!

I was able to find the Sarah Irwin death on GRONI for 1885 - but not the 1884. (grr!)

Bit of a puzzle..... :)
