Hi Barb..

Very helpful link :).  Punch will find lots of great information here.

The McCormacks are listed in the 1850 Directory in York Township, as McCormick.   See IMG 378.  Lot 1, Concession 2   Alexander McCormick, John McCormick and Thomas McCormick.

Hi again,

Not sure when that area just to the north side of Eglinton Avenue (where the McCormacks are located) became part of the City of Toronto.  The 1850 directory covers both the City of Toronto and the rest of the County of York.

Punch, make sure that the Directory you are searching also covers the township of York (or the rest of York county... not just Toronto)...especially the earlier directories. :)

Still a great idea to check City of Toronto Directories- the McCormacks seem to have lots of children, and I suspect many of them would have ended up in the City of Toronto.  The City Directories could be a fantastic way to track them down :)

The 1866 one also covers York County.... Here, they are listed in "York East"  IMG 366 (directory page 346)

John McCormack, Lydia McCormack and Thomas McCormick are at Lot 1, Concession 2, York East... so are Thomas G. McCormack/John McCormack.

Strange that only Thomas is spelled with an "i" instead of an "a" here.  Oh well...best to check for both versions of the name when you are looking through the directories.

You may already have this information, but could this be for "your" McCormack family?

If so, there are other McCormacks listed on that stone

Thomas Sr (says he is from Co Cavan in Ireland) and Eliza

If this IS your Thomas G McCormack, son of your Thomas and Eliza... I found a death notice for him in the Globe and Mail newspaper... Oct 25 1877, page 4

It says that Mr. Thomas McCormack of McCormack Bros. Grocers, Yonge Street, was accidentally shot at Rondeau (no idea where that is) on Wednesday when he was out duck shooting with friends.  He was wounded, and it was originally thought that he would survive.  Yesterday (the 24th), Thomas's brother (not named), who was part of the shooting party, brought the remains back to the City.  No inquest was held.

Here is an article about William Joseph McCormack, brother of Thomas G McCormack and his partner in McCormack Bros. grocers

Your Thomas and Eliza from the 1852 census have children Thomas, Emily and William.
