George STOUT b 1842
« on: Tuesday 25 April 17 19:59 BST (UK) »
Hi I am trying to find out information about my Great Grandfather in Liverpool
He was born in Stronsay Orkney Isles and moved to Liverpool to work there, I have found him in 1911 census as a boarder in his son-in-laws house with 2 of his other daughters but then no trace but he is known to have live with a daughter in Liverpool for a while but does not show on the 1939 register!

Any help or guidance very welcome

Neil

He had probably passed away by 1939 or he would be a grand age of 97!

Have you looked for a death for him?

There's a death in Birkenhead 1934 - birth year only a couple of years out at 1844.
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

What were the names of his daughters?  I take it he was widowed?

The Birkenhead death names Ellen Leigh wife of Thomas and Emma Gilbert widow if those names mean anything.

Hi - thank you but I have looked at this and had discarded it! - hopefully correctly!

His daughters were Mary Jane b 1890, married to Alfred George NELSON, Ellen b 1863 married to Francis Henry OWEN (my grand parents), and 4 sons

So still consider this George is not him

Thanks

Neil

Why do say George was born in Orkney please. All the censuses from 1881 to 1911 say born Liverpool/Everton

All the children have mmn as Davies

Marriage: 1 Feb 1872 St Peter, Everton, Lancashire, England
George Stout - 30, Cotton porter, Bachelor, 6 Arkwright Street
Ann Davies - (X), 22, Spinster, 10 Arkwright Street
    Groom's Father: George Stout, Mariner
    Bride's Father: Charles Davies, Mariner
Witness: William Seddon; Sarah Ledwich, (X)

according to the 1871 census Charles Davies was deceased, mother Mary described as widowed. Living at 10a Arkwright Street, though could not find George at no 6

Hi - yes I have traced him back to Fair Isle and the STOUT family back to approx. 1700 Thomas STOUT as a school teacher who moved to Fair Isle (and there are still a few STOUTs on the island today) - even though in 1862 there was an organised emigration to New Brunswick in Canada when 137 people left the Island in one day - 50 were born STOUTs

Do you know where she is buried?  They could be buried together or there is a mention of him.

I suppose he could even have gone back to where he was born and died there  :-\
