Henry Rogers burial
« on: Wednesday 26 April 17 09:28 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I'm slightly confused as to where my Henry Rogers is buried.

The England census lists Henry as being born 1825 Sheldwich, Kent.

On ancestry I see most people have this Henry Rogers buried 1910 in Pukekohe

My confusion is because the only Henry Rogers death listed for 1910 was for a 94 year old.

Henry's family had settled all around the Hamilton/Morrinsville/Cambridge area so I'm wondering when Henry died and where he is actually buried?

His wife was Louisa Monti Rogers

Thanks
Anita  :)

Do you have the burial place for his wife and where did they marry?

Cheers Janette

Hi Janette,

Louisa Rogers was buried at the Tamahere cemetery in Hautapu in 1897

They married in Kent before emigrating to New Zealand with all of their children

cheers

Well ... have to wonder if perhaps the informant to the death of Henry ROGERS, got his age wrong  (by about 10 years) ??

Unfortunately the online cemetery record doesn't offer much information - and certainly not his age.
Couldn't see a death or funeral notice for Henry either.

Incidentally, Henry's wife Louisa is recorded on the burials list for St. Stephens Church (Anglican) Cemetery, Tamahere.   [Her death notice says that her "funeral will leave for Tamahere Cemetery" ?   Maybe St. Stephens is the only cemetery in that Location ? ]
Louisa ROGERS - d. 5 October 1897 @ 71.

I visited the grave (Henry Rogers D 1910) in Pukekohe, unfortunately it no longer has a headstone. Next to is is buried James Henry Rogers (died 1936 aged 58) and wife Emily Rogers.

I thought great, this is a grandson? But after looking up JH Rogers on papers past he was born in NSW to another James Henry Rogers, who isn't on our family tree - not to say this couldn't be a long lost son but I'm not certain.

Thanks all for your help

Hi

Just found a burial list for Pukekohe Cemetery (Anglican Section).  [Had also spotted the James Henry ROGERS - d. 1936 and wondered if related ... but you've now clarified that .  ;D ]

The Henry ROGERS buried 1910 is allocated Plot  (Lot)  PKANG-A-003 (as per online cemetery record).

According to records for Pukekohe Cemetery (@ ancestry - NZ Cemetery records), this is the entry :

Pukekohe Cemetery :  Anglican Cemetery
Row 1

3. =  Mrs ROGERS Snr.    No H/S.

Have no idea why "Mrs ROGERS Snr" is named ... unless she was the purchaser of the plot ???
[Obviously "Mrs ROGERS snr" will not be Louisa ROGERS. ]

Hi anitawantia

*    Can you shed any light on where Henry might have been following Louisa's death in 1897 ?

*    Might he have gone to live with one of his children ?

*    What was Henry's occupation ?        [*  Did he have a son Henry jnr ? ]

Hi,

Going to throw this in.   NZSG have in their collection a death cert for a Henry Rogers 16 Jul 1910 at Pukekohe, and this looks like the burial : 30 Sept 1910, place Tamahere.

At Hamilton East on December 28, Joseph Andrew Montie Rogers, 2nd son of Henry and Louisa Rogers of Briarley, Tamahere aged 29 years.  The funeral will leave for the Hamilton West Cemetery at 3 o'clock this day [Waikato Times, Thursday 29 Dec 1892 + Funeral Report Sat 31 Dec 1892]

Cheers
