David Howell Thomas
« on: Wednesday 26 April 17 11:02 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Looking for any information about David Howell Thomas, b 1897 in Swansea to Benjamin and Mary Ann Thomas. His father died in 1904 and he appears as the step son of John Williams 1911 census, but then the trail runs dry.

Any help is much appreciated.

Welcome from me too

Can you tell us how he is related to you as it can often help in finding info?

Have you looked for him on the 1939 register?

Hi,

Apologies for the delay in replying. David would have been my great uncle. A death in 1968 is definitely possible, but my father knew nothing about his uncle David until I showed him the 1901 and 1911 records for his mother's family. If David did live until 1968 there must have been some sort of serious estrangement in the family.

best regards.

The free search of the 1939 register has several David H Thomas's born 1896/97 but there is only one entry in Swansea

However - the 1968 death was nearly 30yrs later so he could have been elsewhere and then moved to Swansea after 1939

Do you know what Mary Ann's maiden name was?  There is this birth and mmn was Davies

Births June qtr 1897
David Howell Thomas  Swansea    11a   927

And this marriage

Marriages December qtr 1895

Hi CaroleW,

You are looking at the correct person - born in 1896, mother's maiden name was Mary Ann Davies, two sisters Mary Hannah and Annie (my grandmother). His father died in 1904 and his mother subsequently married John Williams. I have a 1925 electoral record showing a David Howell Thomas living at Cwndu House in Swansea with John and Mary Ann Williams. After that, nothing.

best regards.

Have you checked the 1939 register which could possibly show wife and children
