What happened to the actors after 1901 ?

Herbert Woodin
Madge Palmer
and Arthur C Percy were in a show together in 1901 in Yorkshire

On census night
They were in a boarding house with Lottie Percy  m born 1881 comedienne from Birkenhead
So presumably she was in the same show

Madge Palmer was on census as  Madge woodin

I know Arthur C Percy's story ..he was with his 6 year old son myles
.He was NOT Lotties husband

Would like to know what became of the other actors and if  Herbert was also known as Herbert Smith

Madge married Herbert Woodin in 1902.
There is a published tree with lovely photos of Madge.
It looks as though Herbert was always Herbert Woodin.

Herbert Smith was an escapologist aka Leo  Selwyn  handcuff king

First mention of him is in the Era is 1903 so im told

He.s escaping me after 1909

Although he didn't't fulfill his boast to escape from the police in 1907
he got 15 months hard labour in Walton gaol

I  wonder if he was good at conjuring    he was only 20 when he was "conjuring" up babies for infertile couples !

And had been a restaurant manager earlier .Wonder what other mysteries he.ll serve up

But did he go back to the music halls after prison ...Did he go back to Lottie ?

I saw a photo on. Ancestry of a Herbert Woodin ...His wife looks a lot like Lottie
... the hair and clothes of the time  ! but it was an American Herbert with a Brazilian wife

It didn't say proffession so i didn't know if it was same people

Leo selwyn was the handcuff king of Newport at "The Mumbles " what a great place name

How he managed to find time to conjure up 20 babies for childless couples is amazing

They did use deception ,(tricks )with Charlotte  while still  pregnant ..and after she'd he'd her baby
They dressed well and stay at nice boarding houses to convince
Young mothers that their child was going to be with them

  Some prospective parents would not have taken  a  child who wasn't from respectable home
They didn't use proffessional commitment as their reason for needing  their child cared for

As actresses weren't always  considered respectable

There's a couple in Ireland who narrowly escaped the police...in 1905 newspapers ..sounds like our couple

Baby. " conjuring "was   more  lucrative than acting but it would have been very risky to do it again

Herbert Smith could have turned his hand to another proffession later

Taking another look at articles about Leo Selwyn I also found him performing and advertising for work as a magician .
Tom Owens published a disclaimer in 1907 that he had never worked with his Pierrots

But it looks as if leo may have kept his stage name and magician skills after prison and performed in ireland
