Parish registers in Scotland

That's interesting Sancti, because part if why I want to know is to try to establish whether they came from Edinburgh or Stow itself.
There are just too many William Pringles born around that time. I'm clutching at straws really. There really seems no definitive way to establish which is my ancestor through Parish Registers, and as they are humble folk, no other records for them. I think that some other public Pringle trees I've seen on Ancestry, must have used a huge amount of guesswork, they can't be accurate.
