baptismal records for Halstead
« on: Thursday 27 April 17 16:13 BST (UK) »
John Newington & Emily Julia Richards married in 1845 at Knockholt.

1] I am looking for the baptisms for two of their children as follows:

Emily b abt 1848 Halstead, Kent
George b abt 1850 Halstead, Kent

Even though Mary the 3rd child was baptised at Halstead I have been able to locate her baptism although not her death. It seems she may not have married but it is possible she married later in life as did her brother Charles who was 46 when he married.

I looked on Familysearch and was unable to view the records even when signed in to the site. FS advises the records are viewable  "To signed-in members of supporting organizations." and "When using the site at a family history center."

I located baptismal transcripts for the children born at Sevenoaks and would love some assistance to locate the baptism of the 2 eldest children as above.

2] George married in Jul - Sep 1877 at St Olave Southwark  to Jane Maria Lewis.  I am unable to find their marriage record.  Unfortunately George died just 10 years later in 1887 and I am unable to find a burial record or a newspaper article mentioning his death as a relatively young man.

Hi Westy,

I can't readily see baptisms for Emily b abt 1848 Halstead, Kent or George b abt 1850 Halstead, Kent. However, Adele was baptised at Sevenoaks 3 Oct 1852 and Sophia was baptised there 25 Jan 1854 and even though they are still living in Sevenoaks in 1861 there is no obvious baptisms for the three youngest, Elizabeth, John and Charles.

Allen, Brown, West - Berkshire
Caesar, Dicker, Lamden, West - Hampshire
Hicks, Martin, Masters - Kent, Middlesex
Hancox/Hancock/Hancocke - Warwickshire
Gardner - Devon
Traylen - Essex & Jersey

Deaths a possibility
There is a Mary Newington age 43, December Quarter, Thanet registration district.
The age fits. Could she have become ill and died in hospital?

Thanks so much Amond & Peter.

I don't know about Elizabeth but as you  say the age does fit.

There is an Elizabeth Newington who marries Sydney Herbert Priestly in SevenOaks 1892. The certificate will tell you her fathers name.
On the 1901 census they are living on Serpentine Road, the age is off a bit 42, she would have been 45 but her husband is listed as 42. Especially as the son age 7 is named John.

Worth checking to see if this is your Elizabeth.

Emily dies 13 May 1934 at Garth Mountain Nursing Home was of Beaumons St John's Road. She left a will probated London 26 July 1934 by brother Charles. (ancestry)
Might be worth a look to see who she mentions in the will, who was still alive and is her sister Elizabeth now Elizabeth Priestly.

Adele who died 4 January 1940 also of Beaumons St John's Road, died at Hospital Farnborough. Probate London again to Charles 27 March 1940. (ancestry)

1939 register Adele and Charles are in Sevenoaks (I don't have a subscription to see more)

12 January 1940 Sevenoaks Chronicle and Kentish Advertiser has the death of Adele. (findmypast)

They all lived at the same house since 1861, father John died 1883, mother Emily 1907. Check the deeds and follow ownership.
I haven't found wills for John or Emily.

I found the probate for Charles, he died 2 November 1941 was of Beaumons, 70 St Johns Road Sevenoaks Kent. Died at High Street Nursing Home. Probate 11 December 1941 Llandudno to Charles Albert Richards, Surveyors Clerk.

As Charles was the youngest child and dies age 81 his will may prove most useful provided he stated relationships re his legacies. His executor obviously lived in Wales.
