David Evans - Cilcarw (1806-1860) conflicting information
« on: Friday 28 April 17 09:25 BST (UK) »
From the Genealogy of the Rees family by Stephen Rees. I have that David Evans born 08Dec1806 to Evan Evans and Martha Stephen of Cilcarw, married a Catherine of "Cwm Farm" Llangendeirne and occupied that farm and that they had 4 children Margaret, Nance, Mary and Diana and that David died age 53. This genealogy is generally recognized as being an accurate record of the Evans of Cilcarw and their descendants, however I can find no record of David his wife Catherine and children Margaret, Nance, Mary and Diana in the 1841 or 1851 census. Can anyone else?

What I do have from others on Ancestry is that David Evans (same DOB) actually married a Margaret Jones on 12 Jun 1829, their respective deaths are 11/11/1860 and 17/10/1867. That their children were John (1830), David (1833), Catherine (1835), Martha (1838), Diana (1842), Margaret (1847), Anne (1849) and Mary 1852. In 1841 they live in Cwm, Llangendeirne. In 1851 they live in Gwndwnllwid, Cilcarw, Llangendeirne. In 1861 possibly (as Evan) at Bank Foessfelin, Cilcarw.

Although the former should in theory be correct the latter seem to be, including living at Cwm farm in 1841.

Is anyone able to shed any light on this?

Regards

Others have reported off-line that the later is correct and Stephen Evans genealogy is incorrect in this respect. David, Margaret and their daughter Catherine are buried together ar Caersalem, Pontyberem. Margaret Jones's mother was also called Catherine. So I think there has been some confusion about David Evans's relationship to Catherines along the line somewhere which has been reflected in Stephen Rees's genealogy.
