Housego marriages conundrum
« on: Friday 28 April 17 21:46 BST (UK) »
Hi :)
I have a query regarding two marriages. Rose E. Housego born c1893 in Paddington, London married Cecil Audley Piggott (born 1899 in Willesden, Middx) in June 1929 at Hendon, Middlesex. Yesterday I found an earlier marriage for her in Paddington 1914 to a William George Gilbey. William Gilbey was in the WW1 but survived and lived until his death in Brent Middx. 1965. Rose also died in Brent in 1970. I cannot find a divorce, so how could Rose have married Cecil if she was still married to William? Rose had a child by Gilbey in 1915 and a child by Piggott in 1936. Unless of course there are two Rose Housego's.
I would appreciate thoughts on this please.
Regards Quester :)

The only way to be really sure would be to get both certificates and see if the information given on them is the same.

Where did that come from, I can't see a birth that fits on Freebmd?

Rose Ellen Piggott who died in Brent in 1987 was born 17 February 1905.  Rose Ellen Housego birth was registered 1st Q 1905 in Paddington.   I think that the Rose Housego who married William Gilbey would be a different person.

I agree, if that is the correct Rose, she would be too young to marry William Gilbey.

Cecil Piggott's wife Rose E. was born 17 Feb 1905, tying in with Galium's find on the 1987 death registration.

Likely baptism is as Rose Ellen Housego, 23 Apr 1905 at All Saints Notting Hill.  Parents Edward and Charlotte.  If you tweak his name to Edwin, the free 1939 index suggests you may find them in the vicinity of Cecil and Rose Piggott.

Hi Everyone and thank you for all your suggestions and help.  :)
On the 1901 census Rose Housego the daughter of William & Phoebe is aged eight, (I believe Phoebe's maiden name was Burns) Estimated birth year for Rose is 1893 and place of birth Paddington, London. This is my Rose Housego. For both of her marriages the father is William. So still a puzzler I think, unless her second marriage was bigamous.
Regards Quester.

I think she was the Rosie Housego born 1892 Paddington who married Gilbey in 1914.  Marriage cert shows her father as William - motor cleaner.  One of the witnesses was Martha Annie Housego
