WW2 Records

My partner is looking for records of her Grandfather for WW2 and the only record I can find of him is in the New Zealand, World War II Ballot Lists, 1940-1945 on Ancestry but it just has his name and number they are Sharrock, George William number is 605063 we are trying to work out where he was during WW2 and if he went anywhere or stayed at home, her mother has told her that he was on Guadalcanal,
Any help was so ever would be very grateful

My wife was able to apply for her father's WW2 military record - she just had to show he was no longer alive. The application form is here:

I'm pretty sure that Archway - NZ Archives have them as well, but not sure that they are currently available due to earthquake damage to the building.
