Looking for photo of Maud Mary NICOLLS nee CUMING
« on: Saturday 29 April 17 11:16 BST (UK) »
This is a post to ask if anyone has a photo of Maud Mary CUMING born 23.12.1881 in North Bovey, married Frank NICOLLS 16.12.1913 in Bovey Tracey, died in Cornwall in Q4 1926 (age recorded as 39) and buried in South Hill churchyard.

We thought there may be a photo of the wedding in the local paper of the time and the Mid Devon Advertiser has back-copies that can be searched but we have to go to their offices in Newton Abbot. We’ve also searched various on-line newspaper archives for Maud in Devon and Cornwall but without success.

In the 1911 census, Maud was a housekeeper for the JACKSON brothers at Cleave in Hallwell, Totnes and we wonder if there might be any photos of the farm from that time. Also whether there might be any school photos of her. In the 1891 census, Maud is with parents Elias and Mary Ann at Easdon Cottage in Manaton. In 1901, she is with her mother’s siblings (called LEWIS) in Chagford.

Her address on the marriage entry is given as Edgehill, Bovey Tracey and her occupation is housekeeper. The witnesses are P R HICKS and J LEWIS (possibly her mother's brother John born 1845/6).

Maud had four older siblings that we can find although two died as infants: Elias born/died in 1873 (Powderham); Arthur Charles born/died in 1877 (Poltimore). Her sister Amy Elizabeth, born Q3 1874 (Powderham), died unmarried in Q1 1904 (age 29) and is buried in Manaton.

Her oldest brother, William Lewis (bp 1871 Chagford), survived until 1950. We believe he married  Rhoda Alice M STOOK in Q1 1906 (Totnes) and, after her death in 1914, married Amelia J WILLCOCKS (Q1 1915 Totnes). We haven’t established any children for William.

Once married, Maud moved to South Hill (her husband’s parish and where she had two children) and there may be photos of her from that time (1913 to 1926).

Any information or ideas gratefully received.
