Is this the right William Adamson?
« on: Saturday 29 April 17 12:17 BST (UK) »
William Adamson, son of David Adamson, veterinary surgeon, and Sarah Jane Langton, was born on 10 August 1880 at 91 Bradshawgate, Bolton, and baptised at home on 8 October 1880.

In 1891 he was at home with his parents. In 1901 he wasn't with them, but I wondered if he could be the 19-year-old student of agriculture, born Bolton, at the college in Aspatria, Cumberland.

In 1911 there are two William Adamsons aged 30, born in Bolton.

One is a farmer, aged 30, at Ainsworth Hall Farm, Bolton. He married Ellen Hull in Preston in 1908 and they have one son, John, born 1909 in Preston.

The other is a greengrocer, aged 30, at 1204 Montserrat, Chorley Road, Bolton. He married Catherine Sewart in 1902 and they have three sons, Thomas, Harry and Fred.

I incline to think that farmer fits with agricultural student, and hence that the first one is 'my' William Adamson. Short of buying the marriage certificate, does anyone know of any way of finding out who his father was?

Not sure if you have access to the 1939 register but this will probably confirm which one is yours.

Thank you both.

Mair, I did look at the LAN-opc site but must have been looking with David in the father's given name field. I should have found that!

That seems to settle the matter, for which I am duly most grateful.
