I have the copy from the registers, I was just confused when it said click here to order the certificate, it just got my hopes up  :(
Was also wondering why 2 people from Glasgow would marry in Inveraray?

Thanks.

Oh dear, sorry to dash your hopes but at least you didn't waste £12!

A very interesting question. I can think of several possible reasons, none of which are likely to be helpful.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

What is the exact wording on the Old Parish Register entry for your ancestors? and what confirms to you that this is the correct marriage?

I suppose not, but they're unlikely to be helpful because you will probably not be able to verify one!

One or both may have had a family connection to Inveraray leading them to go 'home' for their wedding.

One or both may have been working temporarily in Inveraray.

Perhaps James was in some militia or similar and had been posted to Inveraray.

Maybe they eloped and went somewhere where they weren't known.

Dorrie

Dorrie I have a copy of Christians birth entry in Glasgow 1771 stating Archibald Johnston and Florence  McDonald as parents.

The entry for their marriage is "Archibald Johnston and Florence McDonald were married 24th Oct".

And at the top is 24/10/1752 JOHNSTON, ARCHIBALD (Old Parish Registers Marriages 513/ 20 199 Inveraray and Glenaray) Page 199 of 343

Thanks

Many thanks, certainly food for thought  :)

The point of Dorrie's question is, how do you prove that it was this particular Christian Johnston who married James McIntyre, rather than another Christian Johnston whose baptism record has not survived?
