Lambert Street Liverpool
« on: Saturday 29 April 17 17:34 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

Does anybody know if Lambert Street would have been classed under Kirkdale Lancs rather than Liverpool in 1814?

I know its a strange request But am trying to trace Ann Knowles. She married Thomas Aldridge & on a census she is described as being born in Kirkdale, Lancs.

I have found an Ann who was baptised at Holy Trinity on 9th Oct 1814 with parents James & Mary residing at Lambert St so not sure what area in L'pool this is located. Is it Kirkdale?

Hope that makes sense??  ???

Lambert Street is city centre Liverpool and would fit with a baptism at Holy Trinity which was in St Anne Street. Kirkdale is north of the city centre, can't remember exactly where it started but if you Google Scotland Road, you should be able to see it.

Earliest map I can find 1845-1849

http://maps.nls.uk/view/102344096

Zoom in on "St Anne Street Ward". Lambert St runs north/south from Islington to London Road.Trinity Church is just north of Islington in Springfield.

The Liverpool Mercury, Aug 1815, refers to " ...Lambert Street and west side of Craven St, near Islington...". Craven St runs parallell to Lambert St. on 1845/9 map.

In 1861 she is down as born kirkdale, in1871 just Liverpool.

It is only a ten minute walk along Scotland road to be in  Kirkdale, I've done it a few times.

I would not discount this one, but it could be a possibility, she could have moved there aged 4 or 5.

They married at St Nicholas church - Liverpool - opposite the Liver Buildings
I live in Garston and I get the train to Kirkdale to go to Evertons ground - also a 10 minute walk .
that record of Kirkdale ,Lancs would be correct in 1814 and 1834 - but she is down as Liverpool at her marriage.

Marriage: 20 Jan 1834 St Nicholas, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
 Thomas Aldridge - Blacksmith, Liverpool
 Ann Knowles - Spinster, Liverpool
Married by Banns by: Jno. Robinson Asst. Curate
     Register: Marriages 1834, Page 1, Entry 586

the only query in my eyes would be - although baptised 1814 - she must have been born at least a year earlier - otherwise she would only be 20 at her marriage and would be recorded as a minor ??
I wonder if this is James and Marys marriage ?
Marriage: 6 May 1797 St Paul, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
 James Knowles - Labourer, Liverpool
Mary Grace - (X), Widow, Liverpool
Witness: Jno. Brownbill; Edward Coventry; Eliza Brownbill
Married by Licence by: Henry Barton Minister
     Register: Marriages 1773 - 1810, Page 151, Entry 15

Can I ask 2 questions :-

1) ShaunJ - what is the 1814 Liverpool directory and is it online?
2) Garstonite - Didnt know about the minor age at marriage ( newbie ish here!!) - its possible that my Ann is another Ann being the daughter of William & Ann born 1811 which would then bring her in line for marriage as a non -minor.

Am trying to whittle it down between the "Anns" by using the names of her own kids to guess the names of her parents!

Thanks very much all.
