Help finding this family please
« on: Sunday 30 April 17 10:52 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone Having a lot of trouble sorting this family out, so any help finding them appreciated.
Have marriage record for John & Isabella, birth records for Isabella and children but no birth record for John.

1841 Census Sowerby Street Botchergate, Carlise Cumberland, England
John   Backhouse 30   1811   Cumberland   Carlisle   St Cuthbert   Cumberland
Isabella Backhouse 25   1816   Cumberland   Carlisle   St Cuthbert   Cumberland
Wm   Backhouse  8   1833   Cumberland   Carlisle   St Cuthbert   Cumberland
Ann   Backhouse  4   1837   Cumberland   Carlisle   St Cuthbert   Cumberland
John   Backhouse  2   1839   Cumberland   Carlisle   St Cuthbert   Cumberland

Can't find any of them on the 1851 census.
Have Wm Backhouse wife (but no William)
1851 Census Cummings Lane Botchergate, Carlise Cumberland, England
Elizabeth Gorden Age 20 1831 Married. Occupation. Working In Cotton Mill. Relationship to Head of Household Step Daughter. Birthplace.  Scotland Edinburgh
Elizabeth is living with her mother who has remarried. Elizabeth says married so should be Backhouse but have put her maiden name instead.

Found this BACKHOUSE, John Joiner, died 09.01.1845 [Christ Church Memorials no 34]
but can't find death record so unsure if him.

William isn't with his wife on the 1861 census but is with her on the 1871 & 1881 census.
He then disappears again 1891 and then is with his married daughter Rachael Worthington   on the 1901 census. William says he's a Joiner on 1871 & 1881 census

Thank you Sandra, so maybe both parents died, but where are the children? William married very young but even he's missing on the 1851 census.

No I didn't find one listed on BMD - could have been in Scotland ? Margaret was listed as Canonbie which is Dumfrieshire.

No he doesn't seem to appear on that - there is a death in Carlisle March 1853 - John Backhouse - 10b 276. Not enough information to positively identify him as yours without checking the info on the death certificate  :-\
