ARTHUR in Wolverhampton
« on: Sunday 30 April 17 11:11 BST (UK) »
We know quite a lot about this family: Patrick and Catherine Arthur, both born Ireland in about 1820, lived in Wolverhampton and had loads of children during the 1840s, 50s and 60s.  We know that Patrick died in 1873 but we can't find him in the 1871 census.  Catherine and children are with her married daughter, Bridget Lyons and son-in-law John Lyons.

Can any sharp-eyed Rootschatter find Patrick in 1871?

with thanks

Hi, I've had a look for Patrick in the 1871 but no luck so far.

However, I found this burial at Merridale Cemetery, Wolverhampton, which gives his abode as Littles Lane - did any of his family live there?

ARTHUR, Patrick, age 50 years, burial 21 Oct 1873, abode Littles Lane, St.Mary, Grave 11964, Reg. No. U2/05397

I think he may have just been badly mistranscribed, or listed under the surname of the head of the household.

If you have the patience you could go through all the original images for Littles Lane looking for any possibilities for him - assuming that he was living there in 1871  :-\

Littles Lane starts here RG10, Piece 2937, Folio 88, Page 1.  Wolverhampton Eastern, Enumeration District 12.

I will have a look but you may spot a familiar family surname.

Thanks JJ!

Catherine's details on the 1881 are a thing of beauty!  Not only confirming her maiden name but also her likely place of origin.

thankyou!
