John Christopher Baker and Lilian Waddell, Curraheen House
« on: Sunday 30 April 17 13:44 BST (UK) »
I am interested in tracing the descendants of John Christopher Baker and Lilian Waddell, who were married in Liverpool in 1935. Both are commemorated on a stone in Ballingrane Churchyard. John was born on 24 July 1893 and died on 22 November 1972. Lilian was born in Liverpool in 1908 and died on 8 April 1980.

They lived in Curraheen House, which is variously described as being in Askeaton, Ballingrane and Nantinan.

Lilian Waddell was a (very!) distant cousin of mine.

I have seen the 1901 and 1911 census, John's birth certificate, the Rootsweb thread with the transcription of the stones in Ballingrane Churchyard, and several web sites with information about the history of Curraheen House.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

If they married in 1935 then it's possible children (if any) might still be alive.

Looks like the Baker family lived there quite a while-

(make contact perhaps through the site's Facebook page?)

Townland listed as Carraheen South here-

Have you tried sending a letter to the property asking for help?
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thanks, both. I have seen all the sources you suggest - I got the death dates from the Palatine MI transcription on Rootsweb, and I have both censuses and quite a lot of information about the history of the house, plus a couple of informative obituaries. Just flying a flag in case any of Lilian's descendants may come across RootsChat.

Having only just made the connection, I have not got round to the idea of writing letters yet :)
