Hi,

Since you cannot find your ancestor between those two dates, you may want to check the city directory for him at that location as well as subsequent years to possibly look to see when he left that address. The directories would likely give occupation as well I would think and would be located in the public library there. I have been told the North York Library is the best one in the Toronto library system for genealogy. Hope that helps,

You mentioned that you had come across a Sheppard family with a John MCormack residing with them. Can you tell me the name of the family members of the Sheppard family and their ages. Thank you so much.

Staring at it, I think it says John, but could be a James?

W.H. Sheppard, marble cutter born England age 42 C of E
Eliz. Sheppard, wife, born lower Canada, age 35 Baptist
CG Sheppard born upper Canada age 10 Baptist (male)
(Charles??) Sheppard, born upper Canada, baptist, age 7 (male)
HP Sheppard  born upper Canada age 4 (male)
(John, or maybe James?) McCormack, born lower Canada, U. Presbyterian, age 20 single

My ancestors (not related to the two men mentioned in this thread) lived in the same area, so as I was looking for your Mr. Sheppard, I also compiled names and address for my own ancestors.   ;)
