McCauley Death Record
« on: Sunday 30 April 17 21:46 BST (UK) »
Please decipher the following:
-two words in the 1st column prior to the word hospital. These words also appear to be in the 3rd from the right column.
-Address of James McCauley

Since a name has not been provided I'm assuming the child was gravely ill?
Ireland: Mayo - O'Malley, Malley, Currigan, Lynchacan. Antrim - McAuley. Louth - Byrne. Down - Smith.

England: Lancashire - O'Malley, McCauley, Foster.

Hi,

I agree with Judy above that it is lying in hospital. James McCauley's address is 3, Henry St.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards

Looks like it's a birth certificate rather than death? Not unusual for child to be registered without first name(s) and doesn't mean child was poorly.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Yes you're right, it was a birth certificate thanks aghadowey. Since it says 'lying in hospital' wouldn't it be fair to assume he was ill?

Thanks for your help too David.

No, a lying-in hospital was a maternity hospital. No suggestion that he was ill.

Thank you so much Judy, that's encouraging. Now I can search for this little boy.

You could look on the 1871 census - you have the parents' names  :)
Best wishes, Judy :-))
