Elwyn, You've given me some brilliant information here, thanks so much.
I found a marriage record for Jane's marriage to Mark Duffy in 1906. It says that she was 21 years yet her birth record shows she was married in 1873 making her age 23. However, it shows her father as being James and that ties in nicely. So apart from her age difference it all looks good. Why do you suppose there is an age difference?
Would you mind having a look at the marriage record because I can't make out "in the parish of ? in the ? of ?"
It looks like Jane's address is 40 Sussex St. Would you agree? It says they were married in the Parish Church. Is that the actual name of the church?
Does it look like Mark and Jane have a mark for each of their signatures?
Could you verify the witnesses?
Should I be posting this on the deciphering forum instead of asking you? Sorry.

Hopefully answering your questions.

1.   I think you have found the right marriage.
2.   I can’t say for certain why Jane gave an age that wasn’t accurate. However it may have been because she didn’t want to admit to being older than her husband.  Not something that would bother most couples today but was important in the early 1890s.
3.   The address looks like 40 Sussex St.
4.   The church was the Church of Ireland Mariners church. It was demolished some years back. It was in the docks area of Belfast (as the name might suggest).
5.   Mark signed with his full signature. Jane signed with a cross, so she may have been illiterate. But that’s not certain as there’s quite a lot of discussion on this subject. People who signed with a cross on one document signed with their full name on another. No easy answer as to why they did that.
6.   I suspect you got this certificate from GRO Roscommon, in which case it’s a clerk’s transcript. If you want to view the original, you need to go to the GRONI site. https://geni.nidirect.gov.uk You will need to open an account and buy some credits. It costs £2.50 (sterling) to a view a certificate. It may show you how the couple actually signed.
7.   Witnesses were Samuel McMillan and Mary Anne Wilson.

This is great news for me, coming up with these leads because I haven't been able to make progress with my MacCauley family for some time. Thanks so much Elwyn.
Can you make out Mark's profession?

The address might be Cultra St but I am not certain about that. The marriage cert you have is a clerks copy. As I mentioned previously if you want to see the original, (with the couples signatures or marks), go to the GRONI site.

Some confusion here? birth certificates do not list baptism details so perhaps this is an extracted record from an online database?

Per the birth record, the baptism date is 31 May 1870,
Parish District: Civil, Belfast Urban 3
Denomination: Civil Parish / District

On a sibling's Baptism record it states:
Parish/District: Shankhill
Denomination: Church of Ireland

Does this help?
