Rev. John Ford, 1729-1756, Lancashire and Co. Durham

John Ford was baptised at Hawkshead, Lancs in 1729 and when he died in 1756 he was curate or perhaps vicar at Houghton-le-Spring, County Durham, almost certainly unmarried.

So says family legend, but we have not been able to find details of his education (surely Oxford or Cambridge at that period) or ordination.

His parents were Richard Ford, an ironmaster, and Elizabeth nee Bordley who lived at Grizedale near Hawkshead.

Any clues or suggestions would be most welcome.

I've only got a negative for you - sorry. He doesn't appear in the Clergy of the Church of England database in either browse by surname or browse by location.

Thanks very much for looking.  I had tried that source, even using 'fford' as the surname, but now have to hope for some clues on his earlier life.
I have now found that he is not listed among the Rectors of Houghton le Spring, so may have been only a curate.
