Helen 'Nellie' Izatt Cairns (b. 1880)

Helen 'Nellie' Izatt Cairns was born in Alloa, Clackmannanshire, Scotland on 5th February 1880 to Andrew Cairns and Elizabeth Whitehead. She married my great-grandfather Joseph Hunter in 1900 (Not sure of location). In 1910 she ran away to America. I believe she travelled to New York and might have actually married over there, despite never seeking a divorce from Joseph. I have always been intrigued as to what happened to Nellie, when she died, whether she had any children etc. If anyone has any information that would be great!

This appears to be the 1910 passenger list - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JJDR-B23  The 2nd page says she was going to join brother John Cairns, 420 West 116th Street, New York.

There's a John D Cairns born Scotland c1877 in New York 1930 census with wife and children.

Maybe tracing him back will lead to his sister (if this is the right John)

Indeed they are! Definitely John Whitehead Cairns.

The New York city death index, which can be seen at www.italiangen.org, has a Nillie I. Cairns who married a Charles D. Connor on 17 May 1914 in Kings County (Brooklyn), New York.  Not sure if that's her, but seems like a possibility.

Possible for brother John Whitehead Cairns passed away 1953 Los Angeles. Born 11 June 1884 - Other Country - Passed away 22 October 1953 -  mothers maiden name Whitehead.

There is a tree with deaths for a bunch of the Cairns siblings, but not Nellie.  This one is listed for Elizabeth - https://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=89803973&ref=acom

George Cairns was listed as dying 12 Sep. 1979 in Los Angeles.

I found a death notice in the LA Times Elizabeth Parsons, which listed her as beloved sister of George Cairns, but no other personal detail is there.
