Hi, thank you for your reply. His wife's name was May Hilder Smith, my dad thinks she was born in 1913, and we know she passed away in 2005.

May Hilda Smith born 8 May 1916, death reg Feb 2005 Kidderminster.

Do you have a name and approx birthdate/birthplace for a child of Sidney/Sydney and May who is no longer living?

This should help us confirm May's maiden name.  Rootschat rules mean we don't name living people on here.

I think she was May Hilda LINTON who married Sydney G SMITH in Essex in Jun qtr 1942.

Does that sound right?

I am so sorry I didnt know we couldnt name living people on here. How do I take that down?

Having removed her name, you can search for yourself on FreeBMD for the birth of the daughter you know (NB it was 1946 rather than 1957!).  You'll see that the record confirms mother's maiden name as Linton, as I posited earlier at reply #11.
