Henry Greenwald died 21/6/1986 - but where?
« on: Monday 01 May 17 15:50 BST (UK) »
According to his probate entry, Henry (or Harry J) Greenwald of London died 21/6/'1986. But nothing in the GRO death index. No entry in the overseas deaths on Findmypast or Ancestry,  or in London Times.  I even contacted the relevant probate office, but they couldn't help.

I know he was born Henry Greunwald in 1904 and became Greenwald in the 1930s, worked in advertising and publicity.  Married Ruth Sacks/Sachs in 1940 who then took the first name Philippa, but was Ruth when she died in 2016.

I don't expect anyone to know the answer to where he died, but any suggestions where else i might look to find where?

Thanks
John

I see that his home address was in Highgate.  Have you tried local or community (Jewish?) newspapers to see whether they have archive records?

If there's nothing in the GRO death index for England and Wales +/-2 years to allow for a coroners inquest, then he died outside of that jurisdiction.

If he died abroad and his death was registered according to local laws, there is no requirement to contact the consulate.

Where was Ruth living at the time of her death?

Many thanks for the final pieces of the puzzle.

And a quick quiz fact I found while looking for him. A Harry Greenwald who died in 1987 was the inventor of the coin meter on coin-operated washing machines.

Thanks again,
Johnh

That's impressive   ;D

I've been trying to find a connection - a relative who he could have been visiting.   But although there are a few Greenwald's in NSW, I can't see any in Victoria.  Of course it could be a married daughter .... ?
