Elsie Wright
« on: Monday 01 May 17 21:49 BST (UK) »
I am looking for any information on a Elsie Wright, I am pretty certain she was born in Staveley, Derbyshire. I know she had a son called Horace Wright, born 1st July 1917 in Apperknowle, Unstone. She also lived in Apperknowle at that time and was a domestic servant. There is no fathers name on Horace's birth certificate.
Thanks in advance

Hi I can see a death of a Horace Wright born 1st July 1917 in 1987 Chesterfield,  is it possible do you think that Elsie was aged say 16/17 when she gave birth, if so an Elsie Wright who married a Frederick P Frith March qtr 1922 Chesterfield is a possibility, Frederick P Frith b abt 1900 died June qtr 1938 Chesterfield?

The only sort of clue I can hazard a guess at, did Horace marry, what was name of father if he did and any witnesses, who registered his death

I know Horace married a Martha Parkin in 1940, Chesterfield and a Florence I Broadhead (my nana) in 1964, Dronfield.
I am pretty sure that Horace had two children from his first marriage.
Horace's father's name is not on the birth certificate.

I am now thinking that Horace was adopted as I can not tie anything to his mum apart from the birth certificate. I would imagine that in 1917 children born out of wedlock were not kept, but find it funny that if that was the case why did Horace keep the same surname as his mum, unless he was kept within the Wright family somehow.

Hi again, what makes it difficult is with Horace being born 1917 he would have almost certainly had been part of one of the Forces in WW2 this means he would potentially not show on the 1939 Index indicating just who he was living with? Maybe his service record could be obtained ( costs money) and proof required?

The Elsie who married Frederick P Frith had parents Alec William Wright and Mary A nee Merricks, Alec sometimes just used his middle name in the case of his marriage.
