Can't answer your question but the Burton family of Selby is quite interesting - a George Burton left a PCC Will in 1844. His daughter Hannah married a Joseph RICHARDSON of Selby.

Possibly some relation to the Standerings too - a grandson bears this surname as a middle name.

Also worth noting from daughter Hannah's baptism in 1798,  her mothers (Frances Taylor)  mother was the daughter of "Abraham Law of Selby aforesaid Couper" - he died 1793. When did Richard Gibson take over premises at Wren Lane ?

Hello

Mortgage registered 1836
Collinson & Others to Elly

Because this is a Mortgage the title is usually read in reverse.

Ann ELLY of the City of York was providing the Mortgage to George HOOD of Selby Brewer who has set up a Trust and purchasing the Ousegate properties and another in Wren Lane with James COLLINSON of Selby.

So Ann ELLY of the City of York was George HOOD's Lender or financial backer circa 1835 to 1836.

There are few Ann ELLY deaths in the GRO, but some other variations on GRO / Family Search / Wills:-

ELLY
ELY
ELA
ELLA Ann of Selby (Will) 1777 and elsewhere
ELE
ELLE
ELEY
ELLEY

I'm also wondering about ELLEN in the middle name of James HOOD's child, as corruption Elley / Ella.

Unfortunately, all I have got to go on is - Ann ELLY of the City of York Spinster (which is a badly copied Summary into the Register) on my official Register Copy, but I would have liked to have seen the original Indenture.

Hello

Wondering if it might be ETTY. The 1836 Deeds Registry entry was very hurriedly written, possibly 't's not crossed.

Quite a bit on ETTY of York and

I have just managed to acquire a document mentioning in 1739 James HOOD of Upper Catton, Yeoman and Ann his Wife, and John Conyers of New Malton Gentleman, for ground called Bolton Ings in the Constabulary of Habton in the Parish of Kirkby Misperton otherwise Kirkby Overcar near to a place called Tom Hollin and then in the Tenure or Occupation of James Hood his assignee or assigns.

In 1773 Ann Hood of Allerthorpe, Widow and Relict of James Hood transferred the residue.

Perhaps a coincidence Etty at Mint Yard, York, or not?

Hello

The Mortgage George HOOD took out (in the 1836 Registration) was possibly from Ann ETTY of York, Spinster (Added).

According to the Will of James Collinson of Selby (died 1851), William HOOD was one Trustee and the other former Trustee was Thomas STANDERING.

Looking at the PCC Will of Thomas STANDERING of Selby (written 1848) his Daughter was Mary BURTON and his Granddaughter was Elizabeth BURTON. William Standering was left a property consisting of about 100 acres on the Levels in the Parish of Hatfield a farm aforesaid on the Levels called Grow[?] Trees.

A Burton / Russell link.

But, I wonder if there was a link somewhere ETTY to HOOD or ETTY to STANDERING?

Hello

Think I'm jumping the gun here, as Claire is checking something.

Claire, has sent information - is a possible link to the CRABTREE and ETTY marriage at Selby.

When their daughter Mary Crabtree married in 1801 ( to Thomas Willis) a witness was Elizabeth Crabtree. Elizabeth was the daughter of Joshua Crabtree tanner whom I'm thinking is brother of the above, thus she being niece of Mary Crabtree nee Etty.

Elizabeth Crabtree went on to marry Thomas Standering in 1801

 ----------

Wm COLLINSON occupied the House owned by Mary COOK (formerly owned by Wm COOK and according to the Quaker Families Book, Mary COOK of Selby was the Widow of William COOK).

Claire has noticed that around the time of Mary COOK's death (1790) the House changes ownership to C. TWIST.

Joshua Crabtree (senior) & Margaret his wife ( can't find a marriage but her name taken from the Admon record for Joshua C) had at least three children that I can see

Christopher bn 1721 married Mary Etty.

Joshua bn 1726 married twice, first one looks interesting, it's showing up in Snaith as well - two dates difference - I think one being the Licence. In the Snaith record Joshua Crabtree married Mary Godboro, in the Selby record she is Mary Godbehear - wonder if it could be a corruption of Goldsborough? His second marriage was to Mary Webster in 1773.

I can't see a baptism for Rebecca but info from the Dades register confirms her father as Joseph Crabtree, tanner. Given she married J Twist in 1757, I'd say she was a sibling of the above men.

Hello

Thank you Claire for all the information.

It does seem, that the 't's were not crossed and it was Ann ETTY who likely provided a Mortgage to George HOOD of Selby, about 1836.

William HOOD & Thomas STANDERING were Trustees under the Will of James COLLINSON, I suspect that after Ann ETTY died in 1837, the Mortgage was taken over by STANDERING and HOOD.

Interesting how you made a link from ETTY to STANDERING.

John Burton HOOD late of Loughborough, Leicestershire, who died 24 January 1863.
Newspaper says he was aged 36 and a Cattle Dealer (born about 1826-1827).
Baptism, 8 November 1826, All Saints Loughborough - Parents Stepn. Hood & Jane

One of those who Proved the Will at Leicester in 1864, was John TYLER of Loughborough, Butcher.

ADDED: I had forgotten, but we discussed his Father Stephen HOOD of Loughborough here ...
