1940 census the children Lois and Robert E could be the wife Mary's from a previous marriage
and given the last name of Lee by the census taker or he wasn't told anything different.

The local libraries have ancestry and its free to use.

There are a couple of mentions of Mrs Victor Lee in the Islip bulletin

https://goo.gl/IA2OTn

I found some references in those papers to another Victor Lee in that area, which I believe is this man - https://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=29779272&ref=acom - so the references may be to his wife.

Unless someone can find an indication that the children in the 1940 census are deceased, I am going to need to remove their names from this thread.  They would be less than 100 years old if they are still living, so not beyond the realm of possibility that they are still around.

The grave stone of Victor is not the Victor son of John Richard and Sarah, he would not have been buried in a Hebrew Cemetery.
As far as the children of Victor - by all means remove their names from this thread - I did not realise that they may still be alive (1931 - 2017 = youngest one would be 86)
I was only interested in the marriage and maiden name of Mary

Yes, I know the gravestone is not Victor.  The gravestone was given in the previous thread linked to above, and the one I mentioned was another Victor Lee who was in the same area as yours and who might be the husband of Mrs. Victor Lee referenced in the article that ShaunJ mentioned.

Get a copy of the 1929 divorce decree, it may give you Marie/Mary maiden name, address of both parties at the time so you can compare with addresses you already know of from the census.

Unfortunately, I believe that New York divorce records are not available until after 100 years after the divorce.  https://familysearch.org/wiki/en/New_York_(Manhattan)_County,_New_York_Genealogy#Divorce  I have some from the 1930's/40's that I would like to get and everyone involved is long since deceased, but there is still a long wait.
