Regarding the 1925 census, in case it's the right Victor, there is a Social Security application for Virginia Rita Lee, apparently born in the Bronx to Victor Lee and Mary Cummings.  Her birth date is given as 29 Sep. 1925 and death date of 26 Nov. 1993.  As of Jan. 1954, her name was listed as Virginia Stegmann.  This seems to be a match for her on the Social Security death index - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JRQG-56F - but with a birth of 29 Mar. 1925.  The 1925 NY state census date is 1 June 1925, so a March birth date would seem to fit with being 62 days old as of then.

Thanks guys
some really good work being done I initially liked the Vandewarker one makes sense she was previously married may explain the daughter born 1925 then along came Mary Cummings wow need to digest this - maybe the Connecticut angle is a red herring and Mary Cummings maybe the one
You all have given me something to research cheers its a pity I am not subscribed to ancestry as that may solve a few issues but familysearch is not too bad
If anything else crops up please let me know
Cheers Manu :) :)

It would be unusual for someone to be taken from Long Island to Guilford, Connecticut to be buried if they didn't have some connection there.  It's a long trip, and there are many closer cemeteries to where he lived/died, including veterans' cemeteries.

Both wives could fit.  It wouldn't be the first time I've seen a man who had two different wives named Mary.   :)

Hi Shellyesq
Quite agree with you and both Marys do fit
so far I have the following Victor b1896 New York father John R Lee - definite
1920 he was a nickel plater - Definite
1925 auto mechanic daug Virginia 2 months -????
1930 mechanic in auto industry - single (living with father)-definite
1935 lived in Bronx - answer on 1940 census
1940 Watchman in private house daug Lois 16 (same age as Virginia would have been) - ????
The grave stone at Guilford seems to be fairly conclusive but would need more evidence
He did live in the Bronx and am sure he lived in Islip Suffolk which would make 1940 census look good but if that's the case what happened to Virginia and was she born before or after Lois
Its so annoying not having access to ancestry familysearch misses out on some info a pity
