Glenlora from Plymouth to Lyttelton 05/06/1879 arriving 30/08/1879
« on: Wednesday 03 May 17 05:32 BST (UK) »
Hello all,
231 immigrants arrived on the above and I am looking for the passenger list
Does not appear to be in paperspast.
It is possible it maybe at the Wellington archives item ID R 4085906
But it doesn't state it is the passenger list.
Could I please request a lookup if the office is now open and operating.
Or if anyone has I would love a copy
Thank you

Hi Beg,
Thank you so much, don't know how you found that.
I have been through this list and alas not on this ship.
I wonder can I push the boat out and ask if you can find the Glenlora departing 23/12/1883 arriving Lyttelton 05/04/1884
Thanks again

.... find the Glenlora departing 23/12/1883 arriving Lyttelton 05/04/1884

Usually it can be helpful to us if you also supply the name of the name of the passenger you're seeking.   ;)

I looked in a few places for passenger lists for this voyage, before turning to PapersPast.   Plenty of mentions of "Glenlora" but mostly relating to the fact that the Captain, E.J. Pitfield, had died on board just four days out from Lyttelton.  Publication of the passenger list may have been missed from papers due to this event ?   One newspaper did mention that "the 'Glenlora' only brought a few passengers in 1st and 2nd saloons and steerage.'

Eventually found :   ;D

A tad hard to spot in this column (it didn't "highlight" when I was searching)  but look for "April 5 - Glenlora"  (has Bowling from London - Bowling was Chief Officer who took over when Captain died) ... passengers named.

Hello there.

Further to Lu's posting, I went searching last night and found a number of Glenlora shipping reports, but no passenger lists for the barque. However in a number of them individual passengers and crew are named due to incidents, like Mrs Hayes [July 1882] suffered a near fatal injury and on the June 1883 reports, passenger H E WOODLANDS died of consumption.

On earlier voyages the Captain ran foul of immigration laws, when a number of young servants were landed for service at Mt Cook. Plus a captain died a natural death, and on another voyage F HARRISON, a steward, fatally shot himself while under the influence.

Sharing of the surnames you are trying to search for would greatly help the forum regulars to assist you.

Hi...

I just typed Glenlora into the Search/Catalog/Keywords search box found on www.familysearch.com

Came up with one link.

Clicked on link.

Came up with heaps of passenger lists.

Ctrl-F to find Glenlora.

Gave 3 options.

---

From here you can either...

click on the magnifying glass, which gives a contact-sheet style output

or

note the arrival port/year and go back to the link Minnie gave in reply #1. Then click on "Browse through 296,065 images" and use the arrival port and year you found earlier. This gives a page-by-page output.

Regards
Beg
