EARL Samuel b. 1873. Can't find first marriage

Hi,

Can anyone help with this please.  I am looking for the first wife of Samuel EARL, born 1873
Information found so far (from FindMyPast and GRO) is...

Samuel EARL:
b. 1873 in Leytonstone
m1. ?
d. Gladys Baines b. 1898 (the GRO record for Gladys Baines EARL shows that her mother's maiden name was BAINES)
1881 Census: Samuel age 8;  living at 6 Morninton Road, West Ham
1891 Census: Samuel age 18; living at Cowley Raod, West Ham

1901 Census: Samuel age 28; living at 25 Gordon Road, Wanstead, West Ham
...also in this census record is Gladys B. (daughter, age 2 b.1899)

m2. Clara WRIGHT Aug 17 1904 in Friskney (Samuel is a widower age 31)
s1. Stanton b.1908
d1. Irene Margaret b.1920

As he is widowed at his second marriage, it is possible that his first wife died in child birth as only he and his first daughter (Gladys age 2) are in the 1901 census (although this may be a wild assumption)

Any help is appreciated.
