St Nicholas Church, Cherington
« on: Wednesday 03 May 17 18:18 BST (UK) »
Can someone please tell me the name of the street that St Nicholas Church, Cherington, Gloucestershire is in? I know the postcode is GL8 8SN, but I can't seem to find a name for the street that it is located on.
Thank you.

I tried the Post Office Postcode Finder but that postcode doesn't seem to have a street name attached to it

http://www.postoffice.co.uk/postcode-finder

maybe the village is so small, no-one in the village including the church has a street address, just a house name

That's exactly the problem that I have found. I'm hoping that someone who lives there or someone who has a local street map can tell me the name of the street.

From the Gloucestershire County Council there is reference to a property with the same postcode as St Nicholas, which could be of help to you.

Property: Beech House
Street:   Yew Tree Inn Lane
Town:   Cherington
Postcode:   GL8 8SN

Hi
It is possible that the whole of Cherington village central part has the same postcode.
The Yew Tree Inn (now closed) is shown on an old map (1975) at the entrance to a side road off the green.
It could be that unofficially the residents refer to roads by where they lead from the centre.  ie: Tetbury Rd passing the Church and Cirencester Rd the other way.
What might be called Yew Tree Lane leads towards a junction with the Avening and Stroud routes.

I looked at the 1939 register and there were no road names.
In the transcript there were 13 households and the only one identifying the building where they actually lived was The School House but if you look at the actual images the named houses are mentioned but the other residences are just noted as Cherington
Malmesbury- Bishop.
Gloucestershire-Bishop,Hicks,Higgs,Hill,Hooper,Hopkins,Pitcher,Robertson,Stinton,Terret,Woodruff.
Worcestershire-Stinton.
Devon- Borrough or Burrow.

This business in the vilage (population 224) has no street address, just a farm name
