Thanks for your comments Ruskie.

Well if I get them between 8 to 10 weeks that will be very good.  I'm not in any great rush to get them by a particular time so it won't matter if it does take longer.

Just interested to see what will pop up on the records.

Ellen

You are most welcome.  Thank you indeed for your kind words.

I am Zoe Northeast, granddaughter of Maximilian Double.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

I sent for my late Dad's army records recently.  Living in Australia and not having a UK bank account, I had to buy a sterling cheque from my bank as MoD don't take card payments.  (They should have charged me the equivalent of about £15 for this service, but decided to forget the charge when I told them what the £30 was for!)

I have only a scan of his death certificate so sent them a print of that, which they evidently accepted.  The records arrived in less than eight weeks, probably because I was able to quote Dad's service number.

OH is better at military stuff than I am so he's piecing it all together for me  :)

I ordered my father's service records earlier this year and they took about four weeks to arrive.

That's a very short wait JenB.

(Anything interesting in those service records?  ;) :) )

What pleased me when my fathers records arrived was that they had also enclosed a little 'record' book which he should have kept and was obviously being stored with his records.

Exactly the same thing happened to me, it was lovely to receive something that was so personal to him.

That was my feeling too, I think I was more surprised that it had been kept.  :)
I got Mums records at the same time but she already had her little book

I'm just about to apply for my dad's WW2 service record and wondered about whether I would be classed as NoK or whether my older sister would be considered NoK and I would need to get her countersignature?
