Mary Smith - a challenge for fresh eyes.
« on: Thursday 04 May 17 15:52 BST (UK) »
Mary Smith was born 27 May 1863 in Liverpool. ( Also maiden name)
Her husband  died 1900
I have her until 1901 1 Ivy Bank , Grange, Birkenhead  with other children  and a baby.
Mary Smith widow 37 dressmaker own account at home b Liverpool
Mary Smith  6 months

Her son William aged 4 was buried at Birkenhead Cemetery in  1902,  abode  1 Ivy Bank,
Her father Thomas Smith  was buried 1906 at Birkenhead Cemetery , abode 1 Ivy Bank,
He is in the same grave as William.

After this nothing, I can find no death of the correct age, and no marriage that seems to cross check in 1911 with names.
3 other older children have been traced in 1911 still in Birkenhead.

A Davies family at 1 Ivy Bank in 1911.
A Lizzie Hamblet at 1 Ivy Bank .
I have searched all through the district and still not found her .

Where is she hiding  ???

Presumably daughter Mary was still alive in 1911 so have you tried using her as your search?

Could she have been admitted to an asylum and just shown under her initials?

Did either of the older daughters marry between 1901-1911?  Could she be under their surname?

Both daughters are still single.
Have tried for both mother and daughter.

In  August 1911 a Mary Smith aged 11 was buried at Birkenhead  Cemetery , her abode was given  She has been found in 1911 census at the same address and is not the right child.

There are a few M S in Winwick, none of an exact age,  but one that fits  otherwise. Winwick is in Warrington,  but surely if this did happen then Mary would be closer to her home in Cheshire where she had been since 1891, her parents at the same address in 1881.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Could this be her at Birkenhead ?
Mary Smith b 1863 Sefton Park
Elizabeth Collins b 1882 Birkenhead trinity
Frederick Collins b 1871 Woolwich London
John smith b 1889 Birkenhead
Mary Smith b 1901same

There are 2 extra children but as you don't give the names of the older children it's difficult to tell.

I only thought they may have been the daughters that I found. Both Marys husband and father were paviours, daughter Elizabth was a dressmaker in 1901.

Away from home with just a tablet , so finding replying a bit of a pain.
Thankyou .

There are 2 extra children but as you don't give the names of the older children it's difficult to tell.

Children known to still be alive Frederick and Harriet.
Mary, John,, Elizabeth,  were the others.
