HUGHES, Thomas bc. 1789 Haverfordwest
« on: Thursday 04 May 17 17:49 BST (UK) »
This gentleman was a sawyer of 52/53 in 1842 when his daughter, Elinor, married my ancestor Nicholas GRUNNAH in Freystrop. I seem to be going round in circles and cannot work out how to find who his wife was and how many other children there were. Can sks please point me in the right direction?

Hi I have located a possible brother for Elinor:-

Baptism 25th November 1816 Freystrop Joseph Hughes son of Thomas occ Sawyer and Elizabeth address Sandy Wells in this parish

EDIT possibly the marriage of Thomas Hughes:-

Thomas Hughes occ Sawyer of this parish to Elizabeth Young of this parish 16th December 1815 Freystrop.

I think Thomas moves around from parish to parish as I have located a couple more possible baptisms in Burton, I think Elizabeth dies and Thomas remarries a Margaret Lewis in 1827 Burton, as a Widower.

Possibly him in 1841 as Thos HUGHS 52 with family at Ferry Hill, St Mary, Pembrokeshire

How old was Elinor when she married  and where was she born ?

According to the marriage certificate (26 November 1842) both she and the groom (Nicholas Grunna) were 'of full age' and living at Carmaker Pool (Freystrop, I presume).
I do not know where or when she was born I am afraid.

Hi again, I thought that the address of "Carmaker Pool" looked a little odd in 1842, so had a search for Nicholas and found this in 1841 census:-

Nicholas GRUNER 20 occ Collier he is living wih a John Hire and family at CAERNOKIRS POOL, Freystrop ( Transcription may not be fully correct but looks better than Carmaker)!
Census Ref HO107/1449/ 5/5/ 2

Also in 1841 census:-

Elinor HUGES 20 occ In Coal Works living with a William Lewis & Family at Little Milford, Freystrop
Census Ref HO107/1449/ 5/18 / 6

As Elinor is a widow in 1861 census, then this is a possible death for Nicholas:-

Nicholas GRONO March qtr 1855 Haverfordwest 11a 524 aged 36
Elinor is not on 1871 census so:-
Death Eleanor GRONO June qtr 1869 Haverfordwest 11a 481 aged 53

It is her baptism that I wish I could locate though?
Keyboard86

EDIT From Pembrokeshire Burials:-

Nicholas GRONO 13th February 1855 abode High Freystrop aged 36
Eleanor Grunnah 11th April 1869 abode Freystrop Cross aged 53

Could I also ask just how is Nicholas your ancestor?
