Post Office Staff Lists .. "Stud Book"
« on: Thursday 04 May 17 23:12 BST (UK) »
The old New Zealand Post Office was first known as the Post and Telegraph Department.  This changed after WW2 to the Post Office and in later years as Telecom before being broken up and sold as Post Bank, NZ Post etc.

For many years as far back as I can determine the Post Office published a Staff List more commonly known as the "Stud Book".

In many years of research I have never seen any of these books in Archives Centres or other depositories.

I am seeking information from any of these books on the Radio Operating Class should anyone know where these "Staff Lists" can be found.

There might also be further information on the Radio Technicians who were also based at the various coast radio stations around New Zealand that would be equally valuable.

The information can be e mailed to me if copied.   For example from the 1985 Staff List the information about the Radio Operating Class is just over one A4 page and is found on page 236.  I do not need the complete book.

Any information or assistance would be much appreciated.

Thank you

Alex G :)

Hi Alex,

The Post and Telegraph Department staff lists (published as a book each year) were held in the reading room of Archives New Zealand's Wellington office, and I suspect are still there (I haven't used them for years).

They are not my favourite resource since they lack an index and even if you happen to know the department the individual worked in, finding them is time-consuming. However, once you find them in one year-book, finding them in others becomes much easier.
