1847 Marriage Record - Kirk/Murray *** COMPLETED ***
« on: Friday 05 May 17 19:33 BST (UK) »
Can someone fill in the gap in the attached record for me please?

I can make out:

Johnston Kirk from the Parish of St Andrews in the County ......... and Janet Murray from the Parish of Middleby in the County Dumfries.  They being both here and Declared Themselves Single Persons were married this Twentyfourth day of April 1847 By Me Simon Lane.

The couple's names and witness names are OK - Johnston was from St Andrews, Fife!

Thanks in anticipation

County Cumberland.

Sandra

Hi Sandra

I thought that too, but the Parish of St Andrews is in FIFE, SCOTLAND.  Middleby/Middlebie I know about.

Regards

Just wondering if there was a misunderstanding about the parish in Cumberland. There is a St Andrews Church in Penrith:

Sorry Gadget, I missed your reply late last evening  :-[

I had noticed that Cumberland information online too.

Dumfries-shire and Cumberland are not a million miles apart - and maybe the Kirk recorder's brain wasn't in gear!

In the absence of any other solution, I may just have to go with it  ::)

It's odd though as the 1841 definitely shows him in St Andrews, Fife  and born Fife and 1851 has him b. St Andrews, Fife.

It probably was that the recorder just assumed St Andrews, Penrith  as it was closer!
