How does a person go about claiming Canadian citizenship pre 1947 that is  granted by a father born in Quebec Canada? I understand that after 1983/85 Church documents which were Quebec's form of Birth registration and many other pre 1983/85 are invalid? What on earth does a person due?
Immigration  where does one start?

Appreciate peoples' expertise and advisement.

Civil registration in Quebec began in 1994, if I remember correctly. Prior to then, all birth records are baptismal records. One applies to the government for a copy of same and that is the certificate used for proof of birth to obtain something like a passport, for example. The government issued certs are valid. Most parish baptismal records up to about 1940ish are also online through "An....y" but a printoff of those would probably not be valid for purposes of ID as they are not official.

Hope this makes sense  :).

I'm not sure how one goes about claiming citizenship but I'd guess your first step would be to obtain an official birth record for the father. This link should help....

I'll see if I can find any more info...here we go. Try this link. It will hopefully tell you "the how". You'll probably need to hunt around a bit.

Before January 1, 1947, a person born or naturalized in Canada was considered a British subject. The terms “Canadian citizen” and “Canadian citizenship” used in some statutes before that date did not create the legal status of Canadian citizen.

The Canadian Citizenship Act established the criteria for obtaining citizenship and outlined the circumstances under which citizenship could be lost or revoked. Canadian citizenship was automatically conferred upon natural-born Canadians, which included those born outside of Canada if their father was born in Canada or was a British subject with Canadian domicile. A mother’s status was only considered if the child was born out of wedlock. Individuals that were not natural-born Canadians but were British subjects with Canadian domicile or naturalized subjects prior to the enactment of the legislation would also receive citizenship.

You have to apply to the Quebec government for a copy of an Act (a birth) which would be created using the baptismal info of the time.
