Those RDF battalions that went to Gallipoli had been there for some time in November 1915http://www.longlongtrail.co.uk/army/regiments-and-corps/the-british-infantry-regiments-of-1914-1918/royal-dublin-fusiliers/
It is possible I imagine that he may have been sent as a reinforcement.  May I ask where the date comes from? If it is from a medal card, there would normally be a code number (2) or (2b) which indicates the theatre of war he was in (if he served at that time) in 1915.  The medal roll entry would show his battalion(s) served in overseas.  Post his name and number if you wish.

Are you talking about 9352 William Duffy?  Served in 2nd and 1st Battalion, went to France 9 Feb 15? Discharged 8 Aug 16.

Then that makes sense with the medal roll which is quite clear as to his battalions and the medal card which has the entry to France in Feb 1915.  2nd Bn to France, then transfer (presumably at the date on his record) to 1st Bn who were in Gallipoli then.  The 1st Bn war diary may make reference to receiving reinforcements at that time.  They left there going via Egypt to France arriving March 1916.

I can only look at the medal records, which don't give dates.  If you'd like to send me the papers you have I'll take a look at those which may have a clue.  I'll send you my email by PM.
