Two churches in Marlbourough > Anglican or Roman Catholic
« on: Sunday 07 May 17 04:19 BST (UK) »
Hi there
Have bap in both St Mary's and St Peter and St Paul in Marlborough. Both are mentioned in baps around 1720. Could someone from the area please tell me if it would be possible to have children bap in both churches (I know the latter is unreconstructed? now) from the same family?
Have searched them both but it might be a question of geography ie where they lived in the town perhaps
Thanks a lot
Meegan

St Mary the Virgin was an Anglican church (and still is!).
Parish registers date from 1602.

Sts Peter and Paul was also an Anglican church.
It dates from before the Reformation, so would have previously been Catholic?
Thomas Wolsey, Roman Catholic Cardinal and Chancellor to Henry VIII was ordained in St. Peter's on 10th March 1498
Parish Registers date from 1611.

Thanks KGarrad. It may have been a question of where they lived in the town then as to which church they attended

Cheers
