DANGERFIELD and DUCK Wilts 1700s
« on: Sunday 07 May 17 05:23 BST (UK) »
Hi there
You wouldn't think that DUCK would be a reasonably common surname but common enough to allow me too many choices!

Is anyone researching the above names in Wilts, probably around Devizes or Marlborough please?

Lovely having all the research sites but eventually there are too many or none that you have to say you can't be sure!
Thank you
Meegan

Hi Megan,

Have you checked The Surname Interest Board on here for those names?

Do you have specific Duck/Dangerfield Ancestors that you have got back too with all info B/M/D totally confirmed?

If you can give us  some more info chatters oh here may be able to help.

Trish :)

I did notice you were asking about Churches in another post;

Quote;
Have bap in both St Mary's and St Peter and St Paul in Marlborough. Both are mentioned in baps around 1720.

I presume they were the Children of Edward/Martha Dangerfield?
(Familysearch.Org)

Marriage;
24 June 1708, St George, Preshute, Wiltshire
Edward DANGERFIELD of St Peters Parish*
Martha LORD of St Peters Parish

Hi Trish
The Dangerfield's are:
William and think it is his bap in Marlborough in 1722 with father named as John (could as easily be Edward and Martha though too) but no mother named. Fairly sure it is he who m. Sarah Batchelor in Milton (Lilingborne) in 1742. It is William's parent John and ? I am having trouble tying down as there seem to be so many around the approx. time abt 1700 I guess in either Milton or elsewhere. There is a possible bap of a John with a father John in St Mary's Marlborough in 1699.An embarrassment of riches I think with so many of them and so hard to be positive.

The Ducks are on the other side of that family:
Mary DUCK mother of William BOX (who m. Elizabeth DANGERFIELD) by banns Jun 1757 in St Marys Devizes. I thought it would be relatively uncommon name but so far have found 3 Mary Duck baps in 1733 (Wroughton), 1734 (Stanton St Bernard) and 1738 (Calne) all of whom - or none- could be Mary's parents as they are well within distance of Devizes

As I said, an embarrassment to the point where I can't say any of them are for sure my lot. There is a point where you have to accept you can't be sure but won't stop trying to sort them out!
Thanks a lot Trish
Cheers
Meegan

William and Sarah married Preshute;

Marriage;
29 August 1742, St George, Preshure
William DANGERFIELD to Sarah BACHELOR
Both of Milton Parish at time of Marriage.
IFreeREG)

It is likely that John was his Father;

Baptisms;
Marlborough, Wiltshire
WILLIAM 28 Oct 1722** you have
JOHN 12 Nov 1727
RICHD April 1730
ELIZABETH 15 April
All just have Fathers name JOHN
+
JOHN 20 Dec 1734 to JOHN/SARAH

Its difficult to be sure.
Honestly I gave up on most of my Family Line about 1760-1780
As they werent from Noble Families that left Wills etc I could not be sure they were mine.
Some lines were easy to trace as;
They had Burials with their age.
Left Wills.
Didnt move far and Marriage/Children were easy to find etc.

I am happy to get that far back conclusively. Any further would just be guesswork.

Trish :)
