Hi Heather, bear with me for awhile, you refer to Mary Jane Hamilton and this upsets the applecart, I notice
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FGCD-ZVK has an indexing contradiction referring to Mary Jane Hamilton rather than Eliza Jane all other particulars of marriage are the same. if this is your source, we should allow for a transcription error within one index entry within Familysearch index of records. The marriage details show Joseph was a widower. Sam’s civil record also has a strange difference, Eliza Jane Hamiltons father is James Laffin not James Hamilton
the familyhistory version of the marriage is
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FGCD-ZVLName-Joseph Laffin
Spouse's Name-Eliza Jane Hamilton
Event Date-13 Apr 1857
Event Place-Drumgooland, Down, Ireland
Father's Name-Joseph Laffin
Spouse's Father's Name-James Hamilton
Marital Status-Widowed
Spouse's Marital Status-Single
another confusion breaking out is Eliza Hamilton herself , I assumed wrongly from reading Aghadoweys 1911 reference was thinking that his is her in the 1901 census
24 in Drumgreenagh (Drumgath, Down) James Laffin and Sarah are living with their own family plus
Laffin-Eliza b 1833-68-Female-Mother-Presbiterian-Co Down-Retired Farmer-Read and

Laffin-Rebecca-[b~1878 or 1873 if 23 transcribe wrongly for 28] 23-Female-Sister-Presbiterian-Co Down-Seamstress-Read and write-English-Not Married—father william?
Laffin-Lucy- b~1867 34-Female-Sister-Presbiterian-Co Down-Seamstress-Read and write-English-Not Married--
all four don’t appear in 1911 census
finding out more about James
James Laffin farmer of Drumgreenagh county Down farmer died 9 February 1932 Probate Belfast 30 June to William John Laffin etc see PRONI Wills
which lead me backwards thus
Looking up Valuation records starting with

then the same property at the PRONI website ‘valuation continuation ‘records appears

VAL/12/B/22/10D (1909 - 1929) as Plot 30 James Laffan
pausing, I had believed at this point I would find a direct connection to Joseph, but no it is a Wllliam.
The William or his son appears thus in Ros Davies Co Down website
William LAFFIN . Drumgath regd. Rathfriland; husband of Elizabeth Brown; father of James Martin Laffin b. 18 Aug 1868 & Rebecca b. 8 Aug 1873 CR
see Rebecca in 1901 census
we have connections
then pausing and looking at Ros Davies Co Down website
William LAFFIN . Drumgooland son of Joseph Laffin; married Mary Anne Leggits 18 Aug 1856 CR
leaves me thinking the right William must have had his mother Elizabeth Brown living with him as Eliza Laffin
Without proof but trying to see if other ends meet I think your family tree is shaping up with second marriages as something like
